When we came back from the apple orchard, there was much excitement about how we might use up some of the apples we picked. Students participated in a Taste-Testing centre where they determined how different types of apples tasted. They applied what they had learned using their five senses and came up with descriptive vocabulary such as red, green, sour, sweet, juicy, smooth, round, soft, big and small to explain their observations. We also brainstormed a variety of products that were made from apples: apple sauce, apple juice, apple crisp and of course.....apple pie! We took a vote as to what product we would bake and it was unanimous, APPLE PIE was the winner. Students assisted with washing, peeling, chopping, scooping, pouring, mixing and baking the pies. The best part of course was enjoying the fruit of their labour. Here are some photos documenting the fun we had learning how to follow a recipe.
